Pediatric Fundamental of Critical Care Support (PFCCS) prepares non-intensivists, nurses, and critical care practitioners to deal with acute deterioration of critically ill pediatric patients for the first 24 hours until transfer or appropriate critical care can be arranged. Topics to be covered include: Assessment of critically ill child, Acute respiratory failure, airway management and mechanical ventilation, Sedation and Analgesia, Diagnosis and management of acute infections, Pediatric neurological emergencies, Fluids and electrolytes, Post-operative management, Pediatric shock, Congenital heart disease, Transfer of pediatric patient

Completion Requirements

To receive continuing education credit commensurate with the credit awarded for this live activity, the participant must:

• Attend all sessions, no more than 10 minutes after the start time
• Participate in all simulation stations
• Complete the Post-Test
• Complete and submit the on-line evaluation

Certificate

Certificates are awarded after evaluations have been completed and will be available to print immediately.  If you have a Florida license and would like credits be uploaded to CE Broker, please enter your license number on your profile.

You are encouraged to print and save your certificate for your portfolio as required by your licensing body.  Interdisciplinary accredited activities, activities having multiple accredits, will be listed individually on the Certificate of Completion.

1. Discuss how to prioritize assessment needs for the critically ill or injured infant and child.
2. Identify significant changes in the unstable pediatric patient.
3. Initiate management of acute life-threatening conditions.
4. Describe the need for expert consultation and/ or patient transfer and prepare for optimal transfer.
