  • Overview

  • Schedule

This educational activity provides healthcare professionals with foundational knowledge and practical strategies for applying High Reliability Organization principles in complex healthcare environments. The program explores how High Reliability concepts support safer patient care, stronger team communication, and improved organizational culture. Participants will examine core elements of High Reliability including Just Culture, leadership behaviors, conflict management, personal and team accountability, trust, psychological safety, and effective teamwork. This activity also highlights the role of structured communication practices, such as safety huddles and escalation of concerns, in promoting situational awareness and coordinated team response in high-risk settings. Additional content focuses on system-level practices that support sustained reliability, including the knowledge domain, learning systems, and performance improvement methods. Learners will explore strategies for promoting transparency, using operational date to guide decision-making, identifying system vulnerabilities, and engaging in continuous improvement efforts. Through case-based examples and reflective learning activities, participants will connect High Reliability concepts to daily clinical and operational practice. By strengthening awareness of system risks, improving communication behaviors, and encouraging proactive problem-solving, this activity supports healthcare professionals in contributing to safer, more reliable care delivery.
